EMERGENCY FIRST AID AT WORK

First aid knowledge is critical in and out of the workplace, helping prevent and treat injuries from accidents or assisting people who have fallen ill. 

Emergency First Aid at Work training is ideal for low-risk scenarios and activities at work. Guidance advises that organisations with more than 50 employees should have an Emergency First Aider for every 100 employees. This training is to ensure someone in need receives the help they need in the vital minutes before the contacted emergency services arrive - versus the First Aid at Work training that focuses on specific injuries, conditions and incidents while including the Emergency syllabus.

With so many opportunities for accidents and injuries in workplaces especially, this course teaches essential knowledge to react to and treat various situations that may occur, with speed but accuracy too. 

Practical and theory-based exercises and tutorials take Learners through all the processes and procedures vital to delivering essential first aid care to someone in need.

Our occupationally experienced and qualified trainers coach Learners on this course, continually assessing Learners and completing the session with a question and answer paper. Learners must pass the assessment to receive an Emergency First Aid at Work certificate, valid for three years.

This course teaches Learners all the essentials of recognising injuries and medical emergencies and administering basic emergency first aid to help someone. In addition, Learners will review legal requirements, ensure safety compliance, and understand procedures and appropriate documentation and classifications in a course that meets all requirements specified by the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.

The course content includes:

• Handling an emergency, including assessing and monitoring a casualty, who can help, and electrical incidents
• Identifying and assisting an unresponsive and breathing adult
• How to deal with seizures
• Identifying and helping an unresponsive and not breathing adult, including face shields, pocket masks, and mouth to nose
• Using an AED, including a chain of survival
• Assisting a choking adult
• Hygiene importance and techniques
• Assessing and monitoring bleeding and wounds, including embedded objects, small blisters and splinters, minor bruises and wounds, and nosebleeds
• How to deal with shock and suspected internal bleeding
• Accident recording, reporting and COSHH, including health and safety first aid regulations, first aid kits, accident records, RIDDOR and COSHH
• Identifying and tending to burns, including electrical burns, chemical burns, and chemical burns to the eyes

Successful Learners will have the knowledge, skill, and confidence to treat any emergency first aid situation in the workplace at the end of the training. They will be able to administer essential life support and put a casualty in the recovery position correctly, and give Emergency First Aid to someone:

• unresponsive and breathing
• unresponsive and not breathing, including how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED)
• choking
• bleeding
• experiencing shock
• suffering from burns
• Record and report accidents and injuries in the workplace (RIDDOR).
• Be confident in what to do in an emergency situation
• Administer basic life support and put a casualty in the recovery position correctly

Upon completion, they will receive an Emergency First Aid at Work certificate, valid for three years from the issue date.

The Emergency First Aid at Work course is for Learners age 16+ who may need to provide first aid to someone at work. 

The course is ideal for organisations whose first aid needs assessment has identified a requirement for someone to hold a current emergency first aid at work qualification. However, if your needs assessment identifies a requirement for additional first aid training, due to having employees with a medical condition, for example, we recommend the three-day First Aid at Work course. This training provides a more in-depth focus on specific medical conditions and teaches the skills to recognise and treat a broader range of injuries. 

The one-day training course certifies Learners as competent to administer Emergency First Aid as the appointed Emergency First Aider at their workplace.
