General Construction covers the broadest spectrum within our sector. Operatives are involved in a range of practical tasks on site, working on projects from start to completion, including preparatory work pre-build and manual work whilst a project is in progress. Operational management within the general contracting area of construction requires adaptability, flexibility and the ability to cope with multiple disciplines at any one time.

This Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Construction Contracting Operations Management - General qualification enables learners to demonstrate and recognise skills, knowledge and understanding and demonstrate competence in a real workplace environment.

The qualification prepares people for work in a managerial capacity focusing on General Construction Works. 

Totally Training assess Learners against performance and knowledge statements from the recommended qualification structure. While producing a portfolio of evidence, delegates will show how they have met each unit's performance and knowledge criteria required within the qualification, as directed by their Assessor.

To pass this qualification, learners must successfully complete and achieve all four Mandatory Units and three Optional units. 

Learners taking this Level 6 General NVQ in Construction Contracting Operations Management will cover knowledge, skills and practices to learn the fundamentals of construction.

• Preparing procurement schedules and programmes of works
• Preparing and agreeing contract accounts and entitlement

• Optimising and controlling contract progress and costs
• Obtaining tenders and appointing successful contractors
• Implementing strategic and integrated supply chain management and sourcing partnerships
• Identifying, assessing and evaluating project requirements
• Evaluating work methods and programmes
• Evaluating enquiries and submitting tenders
• Establishing the condition of property
• Developing and agreeing detailed project designs
• Controlling contract work
• Analysing, monitoring and optimising materials, plant and services

Upon successfully completing this qualification, Learners will have the skills, knowledge, understanding, and competence to progress to a higher-level qualification in the same or similar occupational area.

As a result of completing the Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Construction Contracting Operations (General). Learners who have an in-date CITB Managers and Professionals Health, Safety and Environmental Test can apply for the CSCS Manager Black Card.

Any person or employee who works within or is entering into management within General Construction Works who needs to obtain a CSCS Manager Black card and a nationally recognised qualification in this occupation. 

Times can vary due to Learners' experience and circumstances. We advise between 9 and 12 months from induction to complete this qualification.

Before enrolling on the course, learners must ensure they can provide the necessary evidence within their role to achieve All performance requirements stated in the qualification standards. 

Once the Learner has completed their NVQ and obtained their CSCS Manager Black Card, their CSCS card is valid for Five Years. It can be renewed with an in-date CITB Managers and Professionals Health and Safety Test, renewing it for another Five Years.
