Occupational Health and Safety practitioners and, specifically, Health and Safety (H&S) Officers are vital to the well-being of workers and the success of a project. Working in naturally dangerous and high-risk environments, especially without process or procedure in place, the H&S Officer must have the multi-discipline knowledge, skills and expertise to predict, manage and therefore prevent or drastically reduce risk to everyone on site, ensuring the build stays on track. Duties can range from providing the correct PPE on site to carrying out complex risk assessments and their subsequent reports. Ultimately, health and safety responsibilities and action all parties take to comply with legislation are managed and implemented by Health and Safety Officers.
This Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Practice qualification enables learners to demonstrate and recognise skills, knowledge and understanding and demonstrate competence in a real workplace environment. They are designed for professionals working in occupational health and safety practitioner positions in the construction sector to develop and prove knowledge and competency.
Totally Training assess Learners against performance and knowledge statements from the recommended qualification structure. While producing a portfolio of evidence, learners will show how they have met each unit's performance and knowledge criteria required within the qualification, as directed by their Assessor.
To complete this qualification, Learners must successfully achieve all eight mandatory units and two optional units.

Upon successfully completing this qualification, learners will have the skills, knowledge, understanding, and proven competence to take responsibility for occupational health and safety within an organisation and progress to more specialist roles such as occupational health and safety inspection.
As a result of completing the Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Practice, delegates can apply for the CSCS Manager Black Card. Learners who have an in-date CITB Managers and Professionals Health, Safety and Environmental Test can apply for the CSCS Manager Black Card.
Any person or employee responsible for developing, implementing and reviewing occupational health and safety in their role at work who needs to obtain a CSCS Manager Black card and a nationally recognised qualification.
We advise between 8 and 16 months from induction to complete most Level 6 NVQs. The duration of this time depends on the learner's experience, circumstances, and work.

Once the Learner has completed their NVQ and obtained their CSCS Manager Black Card, their CSCS card is valid for Five Years. It can be renewed with an in-date CITB Managers and Professionals Health and Safety Test, renewing it for another Five Years.
