IOSH MANAGING SAFELY

Introduction to qualification

Health and safety at work measures are a strategic, productive, and critical investment into any business as well as a legal requirement. Managers and supervisors need to ensure the work is happening but do so safely, with the health and wellbeing of their teams a priority. By training managers and supervisors in health and safety best practices combined with business acumen, they can lead their teams in the safest, most productive way.

This Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) Managing Safely course delivers the knowledge and tools learners need to understand and implement the best health and safety practices for their organisation, their teams, and the environment.

Qualification outline

Interactive exercises, including quizzes, board games and puzzles, tutorials and practical activities, take learners through various health and safety scenarios from assessment to final measurement.

The course reflects national standards and industry best practices and is fully accredited in line with regulations. In addition, choose to learn with Totally Training, and learners will benefit from our custom-built training facilities and customer-first approach.

Our occupationally experienced and qualified tutors coach learners on this course, completing the session with an assessment question and answer paper and in-work project. They must pass the assessment to receive an IOSH Managing Safely certificate, valid for three years.

Course programme

This course teaches learners to recognise, understand and implement relevant health and safety measures and know where their responsibilities lie. In addition, learners will review legal requirements, ensure safety compliance, and understand procedures and appropriate documentation in a course that meets all requirements specified by IOSH.

The course content includes:

  • Introducing Managing Safely
  • Assessing risks and understanding classifications
  • Controlling risks - what that means for a manager and the team
  • Understanding responsibilities and how they affect their team
  • Recognising hazards and actions to take
  • Investigating incidents and the relevant reporting requirements
  • Measuring performance and why it is important

On completion

Successful learners will have the knowledge, skill, and confidence to manage their teams with health and safety best practices and procedures. They will confidently:

  • Outline key reasons for managing health and safety in the workplace
  • Define principal health and safety responsibilities
  • Carry out basic risk assessments to identify, assess and control risks in the workplace
  • Identify root causes in accident investigations
  • Collect and evaluate health, safety and environmental performance measurement data

Learners qualify for their IOSH Managing Safely certificate on passing the post-course assessment - a Question & Answer and multiple choice paper, and completing a risk assessment project post-course, at work, and submitting it within two weeks of the course end date.
