FORWARD TIPPING DUMPER

Introduction to qualification

Used for carrying and transporting loose materials such as sand, gravel, waste and hardcore across varying terrain, the forward tipping dumper is an efficient and productive piece of plant equipment, regularly used on construction sites.
Hydraulic rams power the tipping or dumping function of a forward tipping dumper located at the front or rear of the dumper, depending on the dumper used.
A forward tipping dumper requires knowledge and skills to set the rigid and rear-loading counterparts.

This course delivers the necessary skills, knowledge, and understanding of safely operating a forward tipping dumper.

Qualification outline

With a mix of practical and theory-based exercises and tutorials, learners will cover manufacturer information and general knowledge of a forward tipping dumper and participate in practical activities to recognise machine components, functions, best practices and operating methods.

Course programme

This training is essential for workers to operate a forward tipping dumper safely. Learners will review legal requirements, ensure safety compliance, understand procedures and appropriate documentation and classifications.


This course will take learners through:


  • Health and safety legislation relating to plant operators
  • Theoretical knowledge of plant operations
  • Forward tipping dumper operator's responsibilities including daily and weekly checks of the dumper
  • All facets and functions of the equipment and use of the operator's manufacturer manual
  • Safe and best practice in practical forward tipping dumper operating methods

On completion

On completion of this training course, learners will have sufficient knowledge and information to enable them to complete the theory and practical tests for forward tipping dumpers.

  

At the end of this training, learners will:


  • Have a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s operating handbook for a forward tipping dumper
  • Confidently locate and identify the major components of the dumper and explain their functions  
  • Be able to locate and identify key controls and explain their functions  
  • Conduct all pre-operational and running checks following manufacturer and legislative requirements  
  • Be able to prepare a forward tipping dumper for use and operate the machine safely and efficiently following guidance
  • Perform specific loading and unloading tasks and operations as practiced throughout the course
  • Confidently carry out all end of work and shut down procedures


On successfully completing this course, learners receive their certification, valid for up to five years.

This forward tipping dumper course is suitable for those who wish to pursue a career in plant operations. This course is available to those who need full training, refresher training and/or test through the experienced worker test route.

This comprehensive training prepares learners to safely and responsibly operate a forward tipping dumper. The training options vary to accommodate novices and seasoned and experienced learners:


Novice training - four days with a maximum of three delegates
